The contribution of our company to the development of social housing deserves a
special mention. Many thousands of houses have been built both for beneficiaries of housing
subsidies and directly for Serviu.
In this area of
constant expansion, the enterprise has attained a high specialization in its building and
administrative systems. In fact, the stock of land owned by the firm at this moment includes
plots of ground that will allow to build many thousands of new houses in the coming years.
In the mid 1 980's,
the company began to participate in residential projects, especially apartment buildings in
Santiago's east side.
Later on, it placed
an emphasis on building houses for the middle income sector, erecting multiple dwelling groups
in the First, Second, Fourth, Fifth (including Easter Island), Sixth and Ninth Regions, in
addition to the Metropolitan Area of Santiago.
In the last years,
the growth of industrial and commercial projects has been outstanding: office space, parking
lots, hotels, shopping centers and the like totalize an important number of squares meters
built. Some of these are well-known, such as the buildings Europa, Andino and Estacionamientos
Barcelo-na in Providencia; the shopping center Las Terrazas in Chillán; Resort Playa Paraíso
in Concón (Fifth Region and particularly Centro Empresarial Kennedy (Marriott Hotel) in Las
Condes, Santiago.
Activities abroad
have also played an important role for Constructora Raúl del Río S.A.. Between 1975 and 1980
the company established operations in Costa Rica and Guatemala developing a number of works
for the public and the private sectors. At that time, the company exported prefabricated
houses to Guatemala after the earthquake that aflected the region in 1975. At present, an
investment program in Latin America is being studied. Partnership with an important Peruvian
enterprise has heen legalized, and already a building site has been acquired for an apartment
building project that has the approval of the municipal government.
Diversification is
a subject of great concern for the enterprise. Besides participating in all the areas of real
estate business, the company has launched a panel industry that uses Italian technology,
called Monolite, (a thermoacoustic and insulating antiseismic construction system) which has
been introduced rather successfully in the market.
Constructora Raúl
del Rio has shown a special interest in technological development in the construction
industry, particularly with regard to research carried out no building systems that
permanently improve the enterprise competitiveness, as well as in the integration of
equipment, materials, techniques and structural calculus used in more developed countries.
In this way, the first project of a high rise apartment building is being developed, with a
metallic profile structure and walls of Monolite, an antiseismic, thermoacoustic structural
system that allows a very quick execution with finish of an excellent quality.
In addition to the ahove, the constant concern of the enterprise for training its workmen and
improving their quality of life has resulted in a low rotation rate of the permanent
personnel. In 1993, the company was awarded the Prize to the Enterprise that has trained a
greater number of individuals, an incentive given by the Educational Corporation of Cámara
Chilena de la Construcción. In addition to this, we have created a very experienced group of
professionals who, in addition to their technical abilities, have been singled out for their
managerial capability and their independent performance, qualities that are essential when
simultaneously managing a considerable number of works. Our professionals are formal partners
who become involved in the business venture. |
